The American Association of University Women or AAUW was founded in Boston in 1881 to develop quality programs and services for women and girls. The Santa Rosa Branch of AAUW was chartered in 1935 and has approximately 130 members. Members of the Santa Rosa branch are members of AAUW and of AAUW California.

Our branch advocates on public policy issues and sponsors community projects and a variety of interest groups that meet monthly. Our members enjoy fellowship, learning together, and the satisfaction of furthering the AAUW mission.

AAUW Educational Foundation, founded in 1958, is a separate corporation that awards and administers fellowships, grants, and special research projects. AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund, a part of the Educational Foundation, funds and supports selected women seeking redress for sexual discrimination. The Legal Advocacy Fund is the only funding and support system of its type in the United States.
